For students interested in engineering, computer science, AI, mathematics, physics, economics, or other competitive STEM fields, strong grades alone may not fully show academic potential. Math competitions scores like the American math competition are not only asked for by tier 1 universities like Carnegie Mellon, Cal Tech, etc., but can help motivated students demonstrate problem-solving ability, intellectual curiosity, and readiness for advanced academic challenges. Furthermore, AMC students often do exceptionally well in their school’s Math and Science courses.
AMC and AIME Prep for Advanced Math Students
Olympus College Prep provides AMC, AIME, and Olympiad prep tutoring for Pleasanton and Tri-Valley students who want to compete at a higher level and build a stronger academic profile. Students receive support with advanced problem-solving strategy, targeted practice, error analysis, and competition readiness.
If your child enjoys math, wants to compete at a higher level, or is building a stronger STEM profile, Olympus College Prep can help create a preparation plan.
AMC 8 is typically designed for middle school students and younger students ready for early competition math.
AMC 10 and AMC 12 are high school math competitions that challenge students with creative problem-solving questions beyond standard classroom math.
Students who perform strongly on the AMC 10 or AMC 12 may qualify for the American Invitational Mathematics Examination, known as AIME. AIME qualification can be a meaningful academic achievement for students pursuing selective STEM pathways.
The United States of America (JUNIOR) Math Olympiad, or USA(J)MO, and then the International Math Olympiad, or IMO, are for the most accomplished youth mathematicians. USA(J)MO qualifying students often enter the top five engineering schools in the country.
Beyond being asked for by the more selective engineering universities like Carnegie Melon, Dartmouth, Cal Tech, etc., academic competitions can help students show depth of interest and advanced ability. For students applying to selective STEM programs, competition experience may support a stronger academic story when combined with excellent coursework, test scores, research, internships, and meaningful extracurricular involvement.
Competition math requires students to think differently from standard school exams. We teach students how to identify patterns, rearrange complex problems, choose efficient methods, and approach unfamiliar problems with confidence.
Students work through carefully selected problem types so they can build skill, speed, and recognition over time.
Students learn how to review missed problems, understand their mistakes, and improve future performance.
We help students prepare mentally and academically for the timing, pressure, and challenge of AMC, AIME, and related competitions.
Private tutoring is ideal for students who need individualized instruction, foundational support, or a customized competition plan. Available both online and in-person.
Small groups can be effective for students who already have a strong foundation and benefit from working with other motivated peers. Available both online and in-person

“Aydin has helped me through regular and AP classes in high school, and my courses in college. He explains things very clearly and in detail, and if you do not understand the concept the way he is explaining it, he will always find a different way to explain it and make sure you understand. I am now a second year at UCSD, and I wouldn’t have gotten here without Aydin’s help!!”

“I tutored with Aydin for 5 years and easily the best mentor and tutor. The one on one help that he gave allowed me to really understand the subject I was taking, and give me attention to detail that I did not receive in the classroom. His tutoring in normal courses and with SAT/ACT preparation really set me apart from other students. He was a big factor in my smooth sailing high school experience!”

“Aydin is the only tutor I had that I looked forward to seeing on a regular basis. He is funny, witty, intelligent and great with communication skills. He can literally tutor you in just about anything. I used him for calculus, physics, chemistry, biology, and English. He knows what he’s doing and he increased my test performance exponentially. He also helped me with college applications, and is now a very good friend of mine. (My brother and I attended his wedding). Strongly recommend giving Aydin a call!!!”
